Description
Standpost (pillar) hydrants are above-ground external hydrants connected to the main fire water network. They provide a direct, visible connection point for fire brigades around building perimeters and factory yards.
Typical units have two 63 mm outlets and a flanged 80–100 mm inlet, with a rising stem valve inside the pillar. They are painted red, installed along driveways, and spaced per NBC rules (often within 90 m of any point).
Because India has minimal freezing risk, wet-barrel hydrants are common, providing immediate water delivery when the valve is opened.
